Karl Wolz Photography

Karl Wolz - click for larger versionI have had an interest in the magical art of photography ever since, as a youngster, I had occasion to watch my father processing his own film - unfortunately, I wasn’t supposed to open the darkroom door - at least not just then.

I took photography classes and shot for the yearbook at Washington High School with instructor Frank Taylor. I took photography classes from Arizona Highways photographer Willis Peterson at Glendale College, and from the renowned Al Dutton and Tom Gerzynski at Phoenix College, then from Rod Klukas out at Scottsdale Community College.

I finally learned the value of keeping the lights turned off and the darkroom door locked. Along comes digital - all that education goes down the drain.

The images on display at Unlimited Coffee are the product of digital, 120 roll film (2 ¼ x 2 ¼ inches) and large format (4 x 5 inches). Tom Gerzynski taught that a well-crafted image will not reveal the format used in its creation. I hope I have succeeded in attaining that level of craftsmanship.
